After several weeks of failing health, peacefully, and in the presence of his wife and step-daughter, Arnold Palmer Oxton passed away on Tuesday, September 21st, 2021 at the age of 91 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dulcie of 33 years; children Sandy (Alan) and Paul (Mitra), and step-children Gordon (Tuya) and Lorraine (Don); step-grandchildren Bryony (David), Callum (Cinthya), Rowan (Robin), and grandchildren Christopher and Oliver; great-grandchildren Reon and Beau, as well as numerous friends.
Arnold was predeceased by his parents, brother Wilfred, sister Florence (Flo), and his loving first wife, Joyce.
The mould was broken after Arnold was born to Albert and Eleanor (nee Palmer) Oxton, on Saturday, June 7th 1930, in Bromborough, Cheshire, UK. He was a caring, intelligent, and unique gentleman who touched so many with his empathy and wicked sense of humour. Arnold’s passions in life included mathematics, astronomy, engineering, and science, but he amused the ‘rest of us’ with a taste for piano music, football (from the motherland), tennis, and travel. His achievements as a Chartered Engineer were impressive, and his talents as a lecturer were formidable and greatly appreciated by his grandchildren when in their teens!
Arnold and his first wife Joyce travelled from the UK to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) in the late ‘50s where they enjoyed life in the sun, building their family and meeting many special friends including Wilf and Dulcie Heap. After Wilf and Joyce both passed Arnold and Dulcie were meant to be together and enjoyed the last 33 years together, most of which was spent enjoying a glorious retirement in Canada. Arnold’s dreams included becoming a pilot and writing a book.
Due to the pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Although our hearts are heavy, we celebrate his long and rewarding life and find comfort in his newfound peace.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Cowichan District Hospital and Cerwydden Care Centre in Duncan, B.C. as well as friends and neighbours for their love and support.
Please remember Arnold by paying a kindness forward.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Arnold Palmer Oxton June 7 1930
