Anne Christine Burke Monday March 8th 2021

Burke, Anne Christine
“May you be in Heaven a half hour before the devil knows you’re dead.” Anne Christine Burke passed away March 8, 2021 and definitely beat the devil.
Anne was the first in our family to go to college. She graduated from Pembroke Collegiate Vocational Institute, then Ottawa Teacher’s College in 1959. She began her career in Simcoe then moved to Kitchener where she retired after 40 years. Anne was raised on a farm on Burke’s road and hosted students from Kitchener to experience the work and play of haying season. She reveled in Oktoberfests and was a great community supporter of German culture.
Born on St. Patrick’s day 1939 in Pembroke, Anne was sister to Clayton Burke, Ft. Smith, N.W.T., Tom Burke, Prince George, B.C., Frank Burke, Pt. Alexander, ON and Brian Burke, Deep River, ON. Predeceased by her parents Katie-Anne Burke (Rathwell) and Matthew Burke. Aunt to Kathy Isaac (John), Kitchener, ON, Terri Burke, Kitchener, ON, Shawn Burke (Jen Depencier), Cambridge, ON, Stacey Burke, Prince George, B.C., Jason Burke, Calgary, AB, Adrian Burke, B.C., Julie Burke, Richmond, ON, Christina Burke, B.C., Eamon Burke, Deep River, ON, and Shivaan Burke, Peterborough, ON.
Anne being the eldest and female, set the standard for the achievement demanded by Matt and Katie-Ann. She along with all the other secondary students, outside of Deep River, had to take the long bus ride to Pembroke to get their grade 13. Much was unavailable to prior generations.
Anne’s strength of character and determination served her and her friends well. She had a good valley humour, liked a party and had a sensitive capacity for a sound moral compass. She will be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness.
Visitation will take place at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener (519-749-8467) on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend must RSVP at the funeral home website or by telephone. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Kitchener Waterloo Food Bank are greatly appreciated (cards available at the funeral home).
