Angela’s Obituary
The family of Angela Ryan (Davis) of Stephenville, Newfoundland, sadly announce her peaceful passing at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on January 16, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick, in March of 2020. They are having a grand game of cards!
Angela was born in Colinet, Newfoundland on December 1, 1933; the daughter of William Davis and Hannah McGrath. In October of 1959 she married Patrick Ryan of Salmonier and had 4 daughters. She spent the early years at home raising her girls, sewing them outfits and enjoying their youth. Once the girls were all in school she went back to work at the local school and later St. Stephen’s Parish where she worked as the secretary. Both Angela and Pat were devoted to their faith and were very involved in the parish.
Many great memories were made with the family vacationing in the summer in places like Moncton (Parlee Beach was a favourite), Philadelphia to visit Uncle Vince and Aunt Rita, not to mention Santa Claus Village which was an all-time favourite on the road. Many hotels were visited with a mandatory pool that was enjoyed by the girls until they were kicked out because the rest of the hotel wanted to sleep. Our all-time favourite place to be was in Colinet with all our cousins, aunts, uncles and other extended family. Everyone surely felt at home there and were always welcomed with open arms.
Where ever the vacation took us, Angela was sure to find the best shopping venues and she always took her girls. The girls always found outfits, trinkets and charms for their bracelets but Mom often came home empty handed. We started out in a tent and worked our way up to a trailer. The trailer was loved by all due to the bathroom and running water.
While retired, Angela and Pat liked to go to Vancouver in the winter avoiding the cold Newfoundland winters. Angela discovered the Casinos across the border and went at least once a week. Pat liked them but Angela LOVED them. She loved to put a nickel in the slots and get a free meal. They even got a Nexus pass so they could go back and forth across the border quickly. No waiting in line for them!
Angela is survived and will be greatly missed by: her brother Bill Davis of Colinet; 4 daughters: Corinne Ryan of Oshawa, Patricia (Fraser) Oliver of Yellowknife, Dianne Ryan (Russell Clark) of Vancouver, and Tina Ryan (Brent Kelly) of Vancouver; her grandchildren: Lori Francoeur (Matt Crawford), Will Francoeur, of Oshawa, ON, Karly Oliver, Steven Oliver, Heather Oliver, Fraser Oliver, of Yellowknife, NWT, Joe Ma, Holly Ma, of Richmond, BC, Halynn Kelly, Marshall Reid and Taylor Reid of Vancouver, BC; her great grandchildren: Kaylee Crawford, Leith Crawford, Beck Crawford, Landon Francoeur of Oshawa, ON; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a funeral will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Acadian for their wonderful care of Angela and Pat in this past year.
