Andrew’s Obituary
Andrew Joseph Howard Young passed peacefully away at 28 years old surrounded by his loving family and friends on December 12th, 2021, at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, NL.
Andrew will be forever remembered by: his loving parents Patrick and Lillian of Stephenville; sisters: Nina (Alphonsus) of NB and Vina (Geoff) of Stephenville; brother Shane (Jill) of Saskatchewan; his mom Selena Young of Stephenville; siblings: Alexis, Breanna, Kelsey, Gerard, Shiann and R.J. Young of Stephenville; special aunties: Glendora, Laura, and Delorosa Young of Stephenville; uncle Tyson (Acham) in Branford; and godparents Nicole Nolan and Howard Young. He will also be missed dearly by: his grandfather Howard Young of Stephenville; grandmother Virginia Young of Elliot Lake, ON; and by all his nieces and nephews; as well as a very large circle of extended family and friends.
He was actively involved in the Special Olympics with thanks to Rosie Ryan & Robin Bennett and fellow athletes that became his special friends. Andrew enjoyed his time there so much, especially the dance parties. He attended school in Stephenville where he graduated in 2011. He made special friends Josh, and Makayla, friends from Nackawic, NB Choen, Mylee, the McLellans and many more that will be his forever friends.
Andrew always had a special place in his heart for his teacher assistants and resource teachers: Ms. Hawco, Connie Carvel, Gladys Marche, Trina Bragg (Ms Butt), Phyllis Rouzes, Julia Robia, Betty Snook, Joanne Spencer, Mary Burke, Doreen Alexander, and Michelle Bennett (Pop Please); who are amazing educators who made a difference.
Andrew had the love and support from exceptional home support workers over the years. Special mention to: Jennifer Drake & family; Hope Hynes (Hopeie), Nelson Flynn & family; Rhonda & Terry McCarthy, Joanne Cormier & girls.
He received wonderful care from the Janeway Sick Children’s Hospital, Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital and the nursing staff along with Brittany Earl and Allysa Gofbee; you are a blessing ladies. Also his social workers: Debbie Hovanak, Corey Butt, Annette Brennan, Kim Humphries, and Vonita Hepditch; thank you for the guidance & support over the past 25 years.
As we all know Andrew loved fans, SpongeBob, Blue clues, music, bugs, Debbie Green’s balloons, parties, flyers, and traveling to New Brunswick.
Andrew was a social butterfly from a young age. He blessed two families and many friends with his love and courage. “To live your life and Celebrate the day.”
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 15th from 2:00-4:00 PM at Russell’s Funeral Home, Stephenville. Please note, to attend the visitation a copy of your proof of Vaccination (VaxPass or Paper Immunization Record) and a valid ID will need to be presented. The visitation room has a limit of 30 people at a time, please be mindful of your time inside as there may be others waiting to visit with the family.
Due to Covid restrictions a private service will be held. A Celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Andrew’s memory may be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital.
