Vallipuram Jayapathy Friday December 25th 2020

On Friday December 25, 2020, Vallipuram Pasupathy Jayapathy (Jay), loving husband of Indranee, father of Dayani, Shiyamini and Dharshana, grandfather of Meghna and Aran, and father-in-law of Nareshkumar and Sarangan, passed away at the age of 73.
Jayapathy was born on January 19, 1947 to Vallipuram Pasupathy and Subatheraiamma Seenikutty in Urumpirai, Sri Lanka. He studied accountancy and started his career as a clerk at the State Tea Plantation in Colombo. He then became an accountant at Ceylinco, and a visiting lecturer at Oxonia Institute in Colombo and Cantabia Institute in Jaffna. In 1981, he moved to Saudi Arabia and started working for Saudi Consolidated Electric Company (SCECO) as an accountant where he held numerous positions including Controller, Program Analyst, and Vice President of Operations. While in Saudi, he was also known for his contributions to the American Association of Cost Engineers (Gulf section) where he was a lecturer and also served as the Vice President and President. In 1996, he migrated to Canada for the betterment of his family where he joined City of Toronto as a Financial and Budget Analyst.
In 1976 he married Indranee from Uduvil. He was a proud father of three daughters to whom he instilled the values of good character and the importance of family. He was a strong advocate for education and played a vital role in his daughters’ academic achievements. His eldest daughter, Dayani, completed her degree in Cell and Molecular Biology (University of Toronto); second daughter, Shiyamini is an engineer and completed her degree in Chemical Engineering (University of Waterloo); and youngest daughter, Dharshana, is a Gerontologist and Social Worker (McMaster University, Ryerson University and York University).
His friends describe him as loyal, kind-hearted and generous; they also recognize his teaching abilities and mentorship – particularly in the area of accounting and cost engineering. He was an avid bridge player and was always down for a game with his friends. Jay was known for his warm smile, hospitality and exceptional cooking skills that brought everyone together.
Jayapathy peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving wife and daughters at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. A Hindu funeral service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Chapel Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Markham, Ontario. Please note, due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral visitation is limited to immediate family only.
