Susanna Brazauskas
Susanna Brazauskas, daughter of the late Zigmas and Marta Brazauskas, passed away Thursday, May 28th, 2020 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. She was born October 21, 1955 in Portage la Prairie where she was raised and received her education at North Ward, La Verendrye, Prince Charles, and Portage Collegiate. Susanna lived for several years in Vancouver, where she attended the University of British Columbia and also worked at UBC. In 1994 she moved to Winnipeg where she worked for a wide range of organizations such as Mediation Services and University Medical Group.
Susanna’s interests included drawing, cross-stitching, and sewing. She had a huge appreciation of the works of nature and the outdoors and was especially fond of animals of all types. Susanna was an avid reader, especially enjoying history. This led to her extensive involvement in genealogy. As part of her legacy, she spent many, many hours researching and developing the Brazauskas family tree.
For the last several years Susanna was Vice-President of the Winnipeg Citizens Spay Neuter Clinic Initiative. In the past she had also been a member of Toastmasters International and the Lithuanian Club of Winnipeg. Susanna continued to remain very interested in all things Lithuanian, including the traditional ancient religious practices of Romuva. Highlights of her life included her trip to Lithuania in 2002 and to Chicago in 2015 to meet many family members and relatives for the first time. Susanna was also a strong supporter of In the Company of Friends and was a key person in Clarence Asham’s network.
Predeceased by mother Marta in 1957 and father Zigmas in 2001, she leaves to mourn her passing sister Ruth Bond (David Cliffe) of Winnipeg, her beloved niece Jocelyn Brazauskas of East Selkirk, treasured grand-nieces Sarah and Karli (Cole) and grand-nephew John.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Susanna’s memory may be made to a charity of choice. A private ceremony for immediate family will take place in Portage la Prairie.
