Obituary of Stephen John Dean
DEAN, Stephen John passed peacefully surrounded by family and longtime friend Michelle Squire at Owen Sound Hospital Friday September 18, 2020. Steve Dean of Tobermory born September 4, 1948 was in his 73rd year.
Cherished partner and husband of Betty (nee Rouse) for 49 years. Treasured father of John and his wife Michelle of Oakville and Jennifer Cuffe and her husband Jason of Tobermory. Proud grandfather of Abigail and Michael Dean and Johnny Cuffe and special godfather of Kiera Squire (Adam Smith). Dear brother of Shirley Clarke of Tobermory, Dennis (Jane) of Durham and Ian (Robyn) of Dyers Bay, brother-in-law Al Rydall and sister-in-law Marion Dean. Dear brother-in-law of Melvin (Ruth) Rouse of Orangeville, Fern (Ray) Baker of Arthur, Helen McCormick of Owen Sound and Ida (Gene) Munn, Dennis (Norma) Rouse, Dale Rouse and uncle of Travis Belrose all of Tobermory. Predeceased by parents Velma (nee Smith) and Orlon Dean, in-laws Leila (Belrose) and Hughie Rouse, brother Alvin, sister Marilyn Rydall and brothers-in-law Moe Clarke, Hugh McCormick, James Rouse and Bruce Rouse and sister-in-law Darlene Belrose and her husband Lloyd. Stephen will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Stephen can best be described as a hard working family man, avid sportsman, outdoorsman and craftsman. He took great joy in his family and as it expanded he became Papa extraordinaire. As well as a special father, he was best friend to both Jennifer and Jason who spent many long hours with him enjoying time on the water and at the camp. Stephen will be greatly missed by his special friend Michael (Michelle) Squire, whom Steve took under his wing 40 years ago.
A private family graveside service will be conducted from Dunk’s Bay Cemetery, Tobermory. Friends are invited to a drive by visitation at Betty’s house starting at 2:30 pm on Monday, September 28th . Arrangements entrusted to the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, LION’S HEAD CHAPEL, Lion’s Head. Expressions of remembrance to Outreach Tobermory United Church would be appreciated.
