Peacefully on Tuesday December 8.2020 at the La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, Sam Matichuk 87 passed away.
Sam was born in Canora, SK on April 24th, 1933 and later moved to Atikokan, Ontario where he lived and raised his family.
He was self-employed as a journey man electrician and also had a small business Porta-Boat where they manufactured collapsible boats.
He loved fishing and watching wildlife and will be fondly remembered for his love of music. Sam often would be seen playing throughout the district at local jam sessions with his mandolin.
Sam would later move to Devlin where he remained, till his passing.
He is survived by his partner Josie Korchak, his son Darcy Matichuk; his grandchildren and extended family. Sam was predeceased by his wife Anna, his son Craig and daughter Janice.
As per Sam’s wishes cremation will take place and a private gathering will follow at a later date.
If desired memorial donations may be made in Sam’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
