Hailing from the ‘Lingam Family’ of Urumpirai in Sri Lanka, Mr. Panchalingam Selvalingam is the beloved husband of the late Chandravathana, loving son of the late Dr. Chellappa Panchalingam and late Mrs. Sivakolunthu Panchalingam, loving younger brother of the late Manaikolunthu and late Dr. Selvakolunthu, beloved nephew of the late Chief Justice Nagalingam, late AdangaaThamizhan Suntharalingam, late Queen’s Counsel Thiagalingam, late Dr. Amirthalingam, late Nallasegaram, late Rasaratnam, late Dr. Sandirasegaram, late Singaram, late Dr. Vijayasegaram, late Vanniasegaram, late Assaipillai, late Gnanamani and late Rasamani.
Mr. Selvalingam passed away peacefully in Toronto on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at the age of 97.
Before emigrating to Canada, he was a planter in the Kandy district. He had an esteemed green thumb, walked so quietly he could easily sneak up on you trying to break into his secret chocolate covered almonds collection, and was a blanket-fort-builder and ravine-explorer extraordinaire. We will miss his newsboy cap, his photography collection, and him sharing all the snippets of news he learned from CNN that day.
He is survived by, and will remain forever in the hearts and memories of: his children Kamalini (California), Kumudhini (Kuckoo) (Toronto) and Surendralingam (Suren) (Chicago), his grandchildren Prashanth, Kartiga, Krishna, Hari and Anusha, and his children-in-law Kuga, Raj and Manjari.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly, a group in Toronto that advocates for the rights of senior citizens at www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/id/1181/#donate-now-pane .
Respecting the current physical distancing laws in place in Ontario, a private funeral will be held in Toronto on Sunday, May 31st at 1:30 pm.
