Mary Heinrichs 2020

Mary Heinrichs
Heaven became a lot brighter on the early morning of Thursday, February 6, 2020 as Mary passed away peacefully with her family at her side to join her beloved husband John and son Al.
Mary was a bright ray of sunshine who’s quiet strength, gentle sole and infectious, positive attitude spread joy and happiness to all she met. She will be dearly missed by all her family; children Carol and Mike, Lynn and Gary, grandchildren Michelle, Colin, Trish and Carlos, Kyle and Chelsea, and her most cherished great grandchildren, Charlotte, Maria, Lino and Violet. Mary was predeceased by her granddaughter Debbie who was a light in her eye and whom she dearly missed.
Mary was born on February 23,1923 in Plum Coulee, Manitoba to Martin and Mary Bergen. Mary’s early life, surrounded by the five brothers she adored, was full of fun and adventures on the family farm. During this time, Mary’s strength, determination and independence began to shine, to hint at the strong, independent woman she would become. She also became a talented and reliable helper in her mother’s kitchen, where she became an avid baker and cook. Family fondly remembers gathering around the dining table to share her wonderful meals, especially the chicken soup, homemade pies, cookies and buns. Mary always made sure that special stash of homemade pies, hidden in her freezer, was well stocked for when her two grandsons came to visit.
On October 9, 1942, at 19 years-old, she married John and they soon embarked on a new adventure in Ontario before returning to Manitoba a few years later. Mary was a devoted and resourceful wife, travelling across Manitoba to support her husband. Her love and pride of her three children was readily seen when she spoke of their adventures. She enjoyed exploring with her children and added a bit of excitement to their lives whenever possible. She worked many jobs over the years, but fondly spoke of her time working at the Morris hospital and the good friends she made there.
Mary was always a good sport and would do whatever she could to make you laugh and smile. She loved to garden and spent many hours outside, tending to her flowers and garden. She loved nothing more than to spend time with her family and many friends and she was blessed to be surrounded many, who wanted to spend time in her company. Going for coffee, helping at the “Manor” in town, participating in community events and her spontaneous day-trips with friends kept her active, healthy and happy. Her weekly participation in the local bowling league until she was 92 was something she never wanted to miss. Mary’s active social life led her grandchildren all loving joke that her social life was better than all of theirs combined.
Mary will be dearly missed…but her spirit remains as an inspiration for all of us.
We wish to sincerely thank everyone that took amazing care of Mary over the last few years at Sturgeon Creek, PRIME and the health care aids. Special thanks to Francis who went above and beyond in so many ways.
Funeral will be held on Thursday, February 13th at 2 p.m. at the Elm Creek Mennonite Brethren Church.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary Heinrichs 2020..
