Obituary
With great sadness we announce the passing of our mom and Grandma Marlene. She was born in Prince Albert, SK to Edward and Mabel Hubel and married Emmerson Ducommun in 1963. Marlene lived in Prince Albert until 1989 and then moved to Calgary.
Family was everything to Marlene. She loved having her grandkids over, loved gardening and singing in the car with her grandkids. In Prince Albert she and our dad always hosted wonderful dinners and BBQ’s and she carried on that tradition in Calgary. Marlene was an avid baker, especially at Christmas time and we always used to say that “mom has the nicest buns”.
Marlene worked for many years in Calgary in new home sales and in her retirement years worked at Home Depot. She loved going to work and visiting with staff and customers. We loved stopping in to her work with a Tim Hortons coffee, that always made her day. Right up to the time of her passing, Marlene was still very much a force to be reckoned with and was very much a part of all of our lives with daily phone calls and visits. She loved to Facetime with her sister Donna and her son David and talk on the phone with her friends Bunny and Joan, and numerous other friends and family. We are going to miss her terribly.
Marlene is survived by her daughter Debbie (Shane); her son David (Noi); her grandkids Jonathan, Ava and Fai; her sister Donna (Gordon); and her nephews Kristofer (Teresa), Timothy and Robert (Laura) Dawson. She is also survived by Emmerson’s brothers and sisters as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marlene was predeceased by her husband Emmerson on December 4, 1989; her son Kelly; and her parents Mabel and Ed.
A celebration of life and internment will be held in the summer of 2021 in Prince Albert, SK.
“My mother…she is beautiful, softened at the edges and tempered with a spine of steel. I want to grow old and be like her.” ~ Jodi Picoult
