Memorial Donation
It is with great sadness the family of Marion Eileen Spalding announces she passed away peacefully at the Dryden Region Health Center in the early morning hours of March 13th, 2020.
Mom was born in Eagle River on April 13, 1924 and grew up in the area before moving to Kenora. It was there she married Dad in July 1945. They moved to the family farm in Oxdrift to raise a family and in 1985 moved to North Dryden.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years James, son Larry, grandson Steven, great-grandson Matthew, her parents James and Mary Shapland, two sisters, Edna and Eva and two brothers, James and Everett.
Eileen leaves to mourn her passing her brother Wayne (Mary), her children Rodena (Mike), Rod (Linda), daughter-in-law Sharon, Heather (Gaspar), Brad, ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mom’s greatest joy was her family and many weekends were spent visiting in Kenora or having family in. Eileen was a homemaker in the early years, working side by side with Dad on the farm and in the bush. Later she worked at the Dryden Tree Nursery and ARC Industries. Mom and Dad enjoyed many good times with friends, dancing, either at social events at the Legion or the Moose or with the square dance group. After Dad’s passing, Mom had a less active role socially but she enjoyed talking on the telephone to keep in touch with family members. She was entertained through her window with happenings in the neighbourhood and neighbours responded with a cheery wave or a feed of fish for supper.
There are many fond memories of Mom that leave us with a smile. She is dearly missed and these memories will serve as a reminder of the happiness she always wanted for us.
Thank you to all the family and friends that had visited with Mom, she appreciated your time. The family would also like to say a huge thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff at the Dryden Regional Health Center and Barb Lindquist for their treatment of Mom, your caring and compassion was felt by all. A special thanks goes out to Dr. Chaudhry for the care that gave us extra years with Mom.
A Memorial Funeral Services will be held this summer with a date to be determined.
If friends so desire a donation may be made to the Schizophrenia Society or a charity of one’s choice through Stevens Funeral Home, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z1.
