Marie (Cowieson) Hubbard
1921-2020
Marie (Cowieson) Hubbard – 99, Truro,
passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 14, 2020, at
Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Dornoch, Sutherlandshire,
Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Christina
(Grant) Cowieson.
Marie was a proud service-woman, joining the British Army –
Auxiliary Territorial Service in the winter of 1942. At 21, she lead
the 517th battery of the Royal Artillery serving on various bases on
the south of England. Marie married her long-time husband, the late
Walter Hubbard (Truro), in 1943. She soon followed him to Nova Scotia,
arriving on the Queen Mary in July 1946 and settling in Stewiacke.
There they had one son, the late Brian Walter Hubbard (Truro). They
soon-after moved to Truro when Walter accepted a management position
at the local Co-Op.
Marie is survived by her grandson, Robert (Christena), New
Glasgow; her nephews, Ian (Dale) and Andrew Harisimyu and
families.
As per Marie’s wishes, a private family interment
will be held at Bible Hill Cemetery, Bible Hill. If so desired,
donations in Marie’s memory may be made to First United
Church Truro or Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
