Margaret Purcka Friday May 1st 2020

PURCKA – Margaret Josephine Purcka was born on February 15, 1948 in Lestock, SK to Steve and Margaret (nee Mate) Gyore. Marge, the second youngest of six girls was raised on the family farm in the Eskdale district attending Eskdale School and later Lestock Highschool. She attended Catechism and received the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation at St. Elizabeth’s Church where the family were devoted members. Margaret completed her CNA course and began her nursing career with the Grey Nuns in Regina. She was united in marriage to Eugene Purcka on November 29, 1969. After their marriage they lived in Alberta between 1969 – 1975. From there the couple farmed in the Kelliher district while Margaret worked as a nurse in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lestock from January 1977 – October 1989. Marge, an intelligent and intuitive woman, possessed a strength of character which never failed no matter what the circumstances. She was thorough and made no concessions when carrying out her projects; especially when it came to reading, gardening and cooking. At times she may have seemed proud and haughty, but it was only a front to protect her vulnerable side. She always had genuine concern and love for her family. Friends and family admired her noble spirit and were sensitive to her fragility. Many are those who would follow her example.
Marge is predeceased by her parents, Steven and Margaret Gyore; sisters, Regina Gyore and Julia Kuhar; father and mother-in-law, John and Sophie Purcka; brother-in-laws, Joe Kuhar, Peter Koroluk and Anton Antonishen. Marge is remembered by her husband of fifty years, Eugene Purcka; her two daughters and their families: Cindy Purcka (Roy Benko) and their son Brandon; Hilary (Jason) Topolnisky and their children Michayla Kirsch and Abbigale Kirsch; sisters, Betty (Andy) Tarr, Ann Antonishen and Loretta Koroluk as well as many nieces and nephews. Due to current restrictions, a graveside service and interment was held on Tuesday, May 5th 2020 for immediate family at the Kelliher Memorial Gardens with Rev. Fr. Albert Schmitz officiating. Memorials in Margaret’s memory may be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com
