It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Lorraine Marie Pottie, 81, of Rockdale. Lorraine was surrounded by her loving family during her short but courageous battle with Cancer.
Lorraine was born on January 5, 1939 in Halifax to the late Lawrence and Mary (Sampson) Martell. She always spoke so adoringly about her childhood in Rockdale; spending many days and nights with her grandparents and family. On July 1st 1957 Lorraine married the love of her life, Ken Pottie. They built a home full of love and fresh baking. For 63 years Ken and Lorraine welcomed everyone into their home with something to eat, some tea, and a great chat at the kitchen table. There was never a wrong time to have a good game of 45’s and she cherished the many lifelong friendships she made along the way. Lorraine never had an ill word to say about anyone, she saw the positive in absolutely every situation and showed her family and friends a type of love that came right from her soul. She was an amazing woman and her light will forever shine bright in the eyes of her 7 wonderful children: Blair (Bonny), Rockdale; Marie (Alec), Port Hawkesbury; Brenda, Sydney; Anne (Jim), Port Hawkesbury; Sheila, River Bourgeois; Darlene (Glen), Port Hawkesbury; Kenneth (Holly), Dunnville, Ontario. There are no words to describe the love that Lorraine had for her 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Her eyes would light up upon seeing each of them and she was eager to hear all about every life event, accomplishment, basketball game, and school day. She made sure they all knew that her love for them was like no other. Lorraine is also survived by her sister Shirly Bugbee and Doris (Lloyd) Jackson, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and wonderful friends.
Lorraine was predeceased by her mother and father, Lawrence and Mary Martell, and her Mother and Father in-law, Fred and Margaret Pottie.
Visitation will take place Monday, December 21st from 2-4 and 7-9 at Holy Guardian Angels Parish Funeral Home, L’Ardoise, N.S. Funeral mass will take place Tuesday, December 22nd at 11am Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L’Ardoise N.S. COVID-19 restrictions are in place.
