On Saturday November 7, 2020 Judy slipped away peacefully at the Grace Hospice surrounded and embraced by the undying love of her family.
Left to cherish the love she gave us are her daughter Karen Stokes, son Gord Stokes (Nancy), chosen daughter Marie Larsen (Ron), son in law Steve Brockington, grandchildren Hayley (Kasali), Chelsea, and Cole Baker (Ashley), Owen Nicholson (Julie), Alexis Brockington (Ryan), Ben and Elise Stokes, Tyler (Kirsten) and Mathew MacNeish, Courtney Deleurme (Dave), nine great grandchildren, brothers Hugh Mayo (Mary) of Kamloops, and Gerald (Rachel) and Michael (Joanne) Mayo of Selkirk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews across the country. A very special thanks to our cousin Kathy Boushie who provided friendship, care, and compassion during Mom’s final years.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Sid and Katherine Mayo, husband and soul mate Richard (Dick) and her beloved daughter Cheryl. We take great comfort that they are now all together again.
Judy was born July 28, 1941 in Selkirk, Manitoba. She grew up there before moving as a teenager to start a new life in Winnipeg. Marrying Dick in 1961 and raising her family in St. James.
Throughout her life, Mom was huge Bomber and Jet fan, an avid curler, bowler, line dancer, bingo master, and card game addict. She worked for many years for Manitoba Highways and Transportation and made many lifelong friends in the process.
The best times of her life were spending time with Dick, family, and friends at the cottage at Glen Bay. Nothing made her happier and more filled with love than having her children and grandchildren all around her. Live, Love, Laugh was Mom’s mantra long before it became popular.
After Dick’s passing Mom spent her summers at Wildwood Park in Winnipeg Beach where she met some of the most wonderful people a friend could ask for. Many thanks to the angels there who always helped her, provided friendship, laughter, and most of all love. She always spoke of and expressed her love for the crew at WildWood.
The family would like to offer our sincere thanks to Dr. Coyle, Dr. Benerji and the staff at CancerCare, Palliative care and the team of caregivers on 3E at Riverview Health Centre, and the incredibly understanding, compassionate staff at the Grace Hospice.
No service will be held at this time due to current restrictions. A service will be announced later.
