John VanderWal 1950 2020

Obituary of John VanderWal
Peacefully at his home, with family by his side, after a brief but faith-filled battle with cancer, John VanderWal passed into eternity at the age of 70.
Husband and best friend of 34 years to Melodie (Howse). Proud father to Jessica (Jason) Wise, Allison (Matthew) Elligson, and Lauren (Scott Pletch). Fun-loving “Bampa” to Avery & Benjamyn, Silas, Jaela & Kylin, and Rowan. John is survived by his mother Evelyn and predeceased by his father Stanley. Missed greatly by his siblings Arlene (Fred) VanMaar, Gail (Ron Stengler), Wayne and Dave; mother-in-law June Howse (predeceased by his father-in-law Doug Howse), in-laws Becky Howse, Digby (Ginette) Howse, and Juel Howse- (Malcolm) McLean, as well as nieces, nephews, and his many other relatives, and friends.
John was born in Strathroy, Ontario and later settled outside of Holmesville, Ontario, where he created a beautiful home and property which he loved to maintain. Growing up on the farm, he was taught from a young age the value of hard work and a job well done. His work life included various forms of construction, and chicken farming, but his most favourite hours were spent working in his shop on cars. He enjoyed a good game of euchre, cribbage, and board games with his family and friends, as well as Blue Jays games, fishing in Temagami, and introducing all of his girls to his love of drag racing. His kind and gentle nature were felt by all who knew him. His faith in God remained unwavering, and he has received the greatest reward now in Heaven.
Cremation has taken place. Family will hold a private service in the Spring. As expressions of sympathy, John’s family would love to read your memories of him at www.falconerfuneralhomes.com
