John Thomas Moore passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 12, surrounded by family. Dad or John T. to his five daughters, he was known simply as ‘Jack’ to everyone else.
To most he was an introvert, a man of few words who associated with few people. His daughters, however, saw the complex and complicated man inside the hermit.
They remember how much he enjoyed the tranquility of trout fishing in a pond or river in the woods. And the Sunday drives through narrow roads, when he’d lower the windows so they could brush their hands through the alder bushes. And his love for classic movies and the music of Hank Snow.
They laughingly remember how annoyed he’d be at their incessant giggling at the supper table. He’d send the culprits away until they could control the ‘skittering and laughing’, prompting more fits. Those giggles are part of family lore.
Jack was deeply loved and will always be remembered by his daughters Janet (Gary) Burgess, Geraldine (Jimmy) Wade, Bridget (Philip) Reddy, Eileen Day (Ken MacKenzie), and Elaine (Tony) Delaney, and by his 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was the eldest of a family of 11 siblings, and is survived by his sisters Olive Hannaford, Mary (Eugene) Payne and Eileen Kelly, and brothers Tom and Pat (Charmaine).
Jack will also be remembered by special friend Brian Bennett, who over the years came to regard Jack as a father figure.
The Moore family would like to thank the wonderful staff on the fourth floor and in the ICU at the Health Sciences Centre. You are special people. During his stay, Jack expressed his appreciation for how well he was treated by the nursing staff.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 Lemarchant Road on Tuesday, January 14th from 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15th from Caul’s Chapel. Inurnment to take place at a later date. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Gathering Place
