It is with a profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing, in the presence of his loving wife Margarita, of a wonderful and kind man, John Francis Dawson. Predeceased by his parents John F. and Pauline (Martin) Dawson. Leaving to mourn, his devoted wife of 25 years, Margarita, his cherished only son Francis James Dawson, four brothers: Jim (Marnie),Vancouver; Michael (Denise), Holyrood; Bill (Maureen) Sudbury; and Steve, Toronto; three sisters, Rosemary, Eleanor and Joan Dawson, and numerous nephews and nieces. Also, his family in Santiago, Chile, and special family members in St. John’s: Francisco, Melisa, Benjamin, and Maya. John was born in St. John’s and moved with his family to Bay Roberts just before his 6th birthday. He attended St. Michael’s School, Bay Roberts and graduated from St Francis High School in Harbour Grace. He went on to graduate from St Mary’s University, Nova Scotia Technical College, Universite de Haute Bretagne, and Ottawa University. He excelled at languages and spoke French and Spanish fluently. John had a distinguished career as a lawyer and was known for his intellect, ability, integrity, care, and compassion. A true lover of nature, John spent many happy hours at his favourite fishing hole-“The Steadies”, swimming with family at the cabin on Hodgewater Pond , and skiing the trails at Pippy Park. Travelling was another of John’s interests and he enjoyed many great family vacations. John was a gentle man and always a gentleman! Funeral Service will be held in mid June at Cauls Funeral Chapel LeMarchant Road, followed by the burial at Gates of Heaven Cemetery. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at 3 North West, Pleasant View Towers for their care of and kindness to John. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Gathering Place.
