Jeannie ‘Jean”s Obituary
Just 4 months shy of her 100th birthday, Jean Hudema (nee Yasinski), long time resident of the Hotchkiss/North Star/Manning (AB) areas passed away on May 25, 2020 at the Community Health Complex. Jean was born in Poland in 1920.
Jean’s life was lived as a mother, ‘farmerette’ and cook. She was a life member of the Royal Purple Ladies. Jean enjoyed bingos, gardening, her family (especially: the little ones!) She was also known for her making of pyrohy, small Ukrainian cabbage rolls + Baba’s ‘hangover soup’ (when she was cooking at Grimm’s restaurant.)
Jean’s pre-deceased by her parents Joseph & Kataryna Yasinski; husband George Hudema; son David Hudema; 2 infant siblings; brothers Walter and Steve Yasinski; sister Julie Yasinski; son-in-laws Fred Malainey and John Bacso; grand-daughter Beverly Calhoun and great-grandson Jonas Geislinger.
She is survived by her children Josephine (Darrell) Calhoun, Henry (Beverley) Hudema, Irene Bacso, Judy (Allan) Gordey, Emily Malainey; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Anne (Joe) Gudzinski, Mary Feduschak, Olga Sandvold and Billy (Anneleise) Yasinski.
Due to current meeting restrictions, Jean’s private graveside service will be limited to immediate family.
Donations in Jeannie’s name may be directed to the Manning Hospital Auxiliary, Box 1335, Manning (AB) T0H 2M0.
