Issie Garfinkle
December 18, 1930 – December 15, 2020
On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, three days shy of his ninetieth birthday. Cherished father and father-in-law of Stephen and Nancy, Trudy and Ken, Morley and Patricia, Elisa and Jerry, and David and Anna. Proud and adoring grandpa of Sebastian, Adrian and Alexander; Allison and Jarred, Devin, Nick and Molly; Santiago, Enrique and Rodrigo; Lauren and Samuel; and Anthony and Mia. Proud great-grandpa of Raya and Juni. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Harry and Maureen Garfinkle, Jack and Ethel Garfinkle, Edith and the late Shimon (Sammy) Garfinkle, the late Ethel and the late Jack Solomon, the late Lottie and the late Moe Shatenstein and the late David Alper, the late Moe and the late Florence Garfinkle.
Issie was a force of nature by virtue of his strength, energy, endurance, discipline, life-long work ethic, and sense of duty. A formidable man who never looked backwards, he lived his life whole-heartedly and in his own way. Above all he adored his family; his pride and devotion to them knew no bounds. He was utterly overjoyed by his grandchildren, revelled in his role as Grandpa Issie, and delighted in all their interests and accomplishments. Endlessly patient, he was always eager to share his incredible pool-shark skills, which remained sharp even when so much else began to fail. “Even as you’re making the shot, you should already be thinking about what the next one will be.” Daddy, you will be missed so much.
A most heart-felt and special thank you to the staff on 3A, at the Donald Berman Jewish Eldercare Centre. There are no words to express the endless compassion, kindness and dedication of all the nurses, PAB’s and Dr. Mark Karanofsky. Issie was treated with tenderness and dignity at all times, for which we are endlessly grateful. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at reception and security for their compassion and understanding under these trying circumstances.
A private graveside service will be held. Contributions in Issie’s memory may be made to the Jewish Hospital of Hope Eldercare Foundation, (514) 738-4500, ext. 2124, email: foundation.chsldjuif@ssss.gouv.qc.ca., or to the charity of your choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Issie Garfinkle 2020..
