Obituary of Irwin James Hayes
1930-2020
Irwin James Hayes passed away in Pontiac Community Hospital on Saturday, September 19th 2020, at the age of 90.
Irwin is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Eleanor (nee Nevers), daughter Rayma (Don Hill), son Ron and grandchildren Scott and Sarah Hill. He is also survived by his sisters Elaine Chamberlin (late Don Chamberlin) and Doris (Jack Falt) and predeceased by parents Clarence and Ada Hayes and sister Madelon (late Bill Smiley). He will be missed by extended family, friends and neighbours.
Irwin was born on February 2nd 1930, at home on the family farm in Clarendon, Quebec. After high school he attended Macdonald College for a two-year Agricultural Program. Upon graduation he returned to take over the family dairy farm that was established by his grandfather in 1903.
Throughout the years he raised prize-winning cattle and competed in fairs and exhibitions. Recently he was honoured by Holstein Canada as a 60 year Veteran Member.
He served on the Clarendon Municipal Council for 9 years and was an active member of the Shawville United Church.
In his later years, Irwin had a passion for jigsaw puzzles. He will be remembered as a quiet, generous, hard-working man who shared his love of nature with his wife, daughter, son and grandchildren.
A special thank you to Dr. T. O’Neill and staff at the Pontiac Community Hospital for their excellent care for many years.
Memorial donations to the Pontiac Community Hospital or the Shawville United Church would be appreciated.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private funeral will be held.
