Gordon’s Obituary
DEINSTADT, Gordon Leslie, 81, of Gunning Cove, Shelburne, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2020, after a brief stay at Yarmouth General Hospital. He was the youngest of five children born to the late Clarence and Bertha (McKay) Deinstadt. Gordon was a fisherman all of his working life and took great pride in his fishing boats, as with everything he did. His 32 ft. wooden boat, Annie F. II, was on display for many years as a tourist attraction at the Visitors Centre in Barrington. He was talented in many ways and was certainly a perfectionist. He built the one and only home that he and his surviving wife of 61 years, Evelyn (Bower), shared and where they raised their five children. He also went to Cape Sable Island just about every day and helped build his last boat, the Wait & See.
In recent years, he could be seen daily at the Gunning Cove wharf watching the goings on and taking part in the fishing yarns with the local fishermen; except on Sundays when he always took Evelyn out for supper. He loved watching the wild animals come and go around his property, and especially loved the visits from his 4-legged, fur grandbabies.
Gordon was pre-deceased by his eldest daughter, Donna, and is survived by Shirley (Peter Decker); Sheila (Louis Acker); Bruce (Dawn Holmes); and David (Harriet), all from the Shelburne area. He is survived by his sister Lillian Doane; and pre-deceased by siblings Kenneth, Thelma Mahaney, and Gladys Perry. Gordon leaves behind six grandchildren (Cheryl, Charlene, Nathan, Adam, Darren, and Rebecca), seven great grandchildren (Eric, Ethan, Camryn, Carley, Leo, Willow, and Hayden), as well as many nieces and nephews.
