Gerald (Gerry) Brisebois: passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on October 17th, 2020 at the age of 92 years. Gerald was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Kathleen (Kay) in 2011. He is survived by his family: David (Dianne), Paul (Marie-Noël), Robert, Marie (Gary) and Louise (Mireille). He was adored by his grandchildren: Joel, Laura (Mike), Kristina (Adam), Jamie (Patricia), Jody (Ashley), Sarah (Matthew) and Julie (Joey). His great grandchildren gave him a reason to live such a long and happy life. Connor, Murray, Ashton, Brooklyn, Lyanna and Patrick brought him so much joy.
Gerry was a proud citizen of the town of Huntingdon. He was part of the first Town Band in the fifties and sixties, he served on the Town Council and then as Town Mayor for many years until he retired from municipal politics in 1995. He was active in the Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus and The Huntingdon Legion where he could always be spotted around town every November, up until just last year, selling the Poppies. He was a proud member of St. Joseph Church and even near the end of his life was still able to shuffle into his Sunday morning pew. He loved playing cards on Monday evenings at the Legion, the Arts and Crafts and playing Crib, where he seldom lost. Hockey, golf, bowling and playing pool were some of his other hobbies.
Although very active throughout his life, Gerry’s strong focus was on his family. He enjoyed family get togethers and, even though born French Canadian, he always proclaimed to be Irish from the Ridge. Gerry had a rich life filled with wonderful family, many loyal friends in town and in provincial politics where he was always active at election time. He will be greatly missed but his sense of humour has been passed to his grandchildren and great grandchildren so, that twinkle in Gerry’s eye will live on. He has left us all many great memories.
Because of the current COVID restrictions the funeral will be held in the intimacy of the family. We would like to express our gratitude to the doctors and nurses at L’Hôpital du Sûroit for their care and support during dad’s last days. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Betty Riel Foundation or Diabetes Quebec Association.

Le 17 octobre 2020, à l’âge de 92 ans, est décédé paisiblement, sa famille à ses côtés, monsieur Gérald (Gerry) Brisebois. Gérald a été prédécédé de son épouse Kathleen (Kay) en 2011. Il laisse dans le deuil sa famille: David (Dianne), Paul (Marie-Noël), Robert, Marie (Gary) et Louise (Mireille). Il était adoré par ses petits-enfants : Joel, Laura (Mike), Kristina (Adam), Jamie (Patricia), Jody (Ashley), Sarah (Matthew) et Julie (Joey). Ses arrière-petits-enfants lui ont donné une raison de vivre une aussi longue et heureuse vie : Connor, Murray, Ashton, Brooklyn, Lyanna et Patrick.
Gerry était un fier citoyen de la ville de Huntingdon. Il a fait partie de la première fanfare de la ville dans les années cinquante et soixante. Il a siégé au conseil municipal, puis a été maire de la ville de Huntingdon pendant de nombreuses années, jusqu’à ce qu’il se retire de la politique municipale en 1995. Il a été actif au sein du Club Rotary, des Chevaliers de Colomb et de la Légion de Huntingdon. Jusqu’à l’année dernière, il pouvait toujours être reconnu dans la ville, en novembre, vendant les coquelicots. Il était un fier membre de l’église Saint-Joseph et même vers la fin de sa vie, il était encore capable de se traîner sur son banc du dimanche matin. Il était un sportif dans l’âme, hockey, golf, bowling, billard et cartes ont occupés beaucoup de ses temps libres.
Bien que très actif tout au long de sa vie, Gerry s’est surtout concentré sur sa famille. Il aimait les réunions familiales et même s’il était né Canadien français, il a toujours proclamé être un Irlandais du chemin Ridge. Gerry a vécu une vie bien remplie, entouré d’une famille merveilleuse ainsi que de nombreux amis fidèles tant du domaine municipal que provincial, étant toujours actif au moment des élections. Il nous manquera beaucoup, mais son sens de l’humour a été transmis à ses petits-enfants et arrière-petits-enfants, si bien que cette lueur dans les yeux de Gerry restera vivante à jamais. Il nous laisse des souvenirs inoubliables.
En raison des restrictions actuelles de la COVID, les funérailles se tiendront dans l’intimité de la famille, Nous tenons à exprimer notre gratitude aux médecins et infirmières de l’Hôpital du Sûroit pour les soins et le soutien qu’ils ont apportés à papa pendant ses derniers jours. Pour ceux qui le souhaitent, des dons peuvent être faits à la Fondation Betty Riel ou à l’Association Diabète Québec.
