Genne Haklar Holyk Sunday November 29th 2020

GENNE J HAKLAR
(nee HOLYK)
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on November 29, 2020 at Park Manor Personal Care Home.
She is survived by her sister Anne (Stan), daughter Linda (Bob), sons Larrry (Lois) and Louie (Rhonda), grandsons Brad, Michael and Matt, granddaughters Rhonda (Scott), Rayleen (Jason), Kaitlin, Leah and Jana, great-granddaughters Lexi and Jayden, great-grandsons Christian, James, Cole, many nieces and nephews, and friends who were all like family to her.
Mom was born on January 27, 1923 though her birth wasn’t registered until February 11 which is the date on her birth certificate. She grew up in the Lac du Bonnet area. She was predeceased by her husbands Louis and Leo, brothers George, Stanley, Andrew, John (infant), sisters Pauline, Rose, Olga, Mary (infant).
Mom moved to the city in 1943. In that year she was married to her first husband, Leo. They had two children, Larry and Linda. In 1977, Mom married Louis (Lajos) and had her dream child Louis. Family and friends from the farm were always welcome to stay and she took in many relatives over the years. Mom was a person who would help out anyone if she could. Mom worked many different jobs over the years; store clerk, store owner, server, cook and seamstress. She loved to cook and bake. Her perogies and cabbage rolls were second to nobody. In typical Ukrainian fashion Mom would prepare a full meal if friends dropped in unexpectedly and would put together a full Christmas dinner if family dropped in.
Mom was well read and tried to keep informed about all current events throughout the world. She loved reading her Time magazines. She enjoyed crocheting and provided many warm and comforting gifts for her family and friends to treasure forever. Mom also loved to play cards and was always up for a game of rummy. Her greatest joy was her family particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were No. 1 in her eyes and were all equally loved by her.
The family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff at Park Manor Personal Care Home. They took care of Mom like she was family and that is something we will never forget. We would also like to thank the staff at E.J. Coutu funeral Home for their care and compassion during this time.
During these crazy times a small family service will be taking on December 6 (viewing) and December 8 (burial).
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
