Edward Workun 2020

87, of Edmonton (formerly of Calmar), died Thursday November 5, 2020 at the Misericordia Hospital ICU. He was born on October 24, 1933 on a farm near Calmar (“the Homeplace), the son of Sophie and Steven Workun. Ed will be remembered by his children, Curtis (Kim) Workun, Garnett (Darlene Williams) Workun, Carmelle Workun, Catherine (Craig McDougall) Workun; by his grandchildren, Haley (Jake), Code and Quinn Workun, Julee, Georgia and Isabella Workun, Andrew and Stephen Tomich; by his great-grandson Jet Workun Popiez; by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur (Phyllis) Sereda, Murray (Sandy) Sereda and their children Chase and Tess, Bernadette (Reg Lindgren) Sereda; by Ed’s family dog Mia. Ed was predeceased by his wife of nearly 54 years, Antoinette, as well as his much-loved son-in-law, Kevin Tomich.
Encouraging, optimistic, strong, stubborn, fiercely independent, intelligent – That was Ed! He was a voracious consumer of news, especially business news. Since he read at least 3 newspapers every day, he was always well equipped and up for a lively political discussion. Ed loved vehicles of all types (cars, trucks, tractors, snowmobiles and motorcycles), even more, he loved shopping for vehicles. His BBQ’d ribs were amazing; his mashed potatoes legendary. Ed had the most fabulous smile. He loved the conversation and the socializing that came with playing crib, sipping good (or even bad) whiskey and drinking Tim Horton’s coffee. Ed was adventurous, having travelled from Cambridge Bay, Nunavut to Paris, Texas; from Maui to the Maritimes; from Reykjavik to Haida Gwaii. He was a passionate Eskimos and Oilers fan and loved all the accompanying analysis and punditry. Most of all, Ed unconditionally loved his family – His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchild – and would do (and did do) anything for them – He was always there for them. We’re going to miss him!
He would want us to say thank you to all those who helped him through his last few weeks; in particular, Jennifer M. at the Misericordia ICU. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Ed’s funeral service will be a small private event.
“We are so lightly here. It is in love that we are made and in love we disappear.”
-Leonard Cohen
