Claire Eleanor Milne March 30th 1927 December 29th 2020

We are sad to announce the passing of our mother Claire Eleanor Milne (nee Lord) at the age of 93 in Vancouver, B.C. on December 29, 2020. She was born in Vancouver on March 30, 1927 to Gertrude and Harry Lord. She and her younger brother Don were brought up on Beechwood Street in Vancouver. Her maternal Grandmother’s family owned the quarry at Granite falls. She and her friend Edna Scott spent many a summer paddling off the docks, exploring the area around Granite Falls, and working at the Wigwam Inn. She graduated from UBC with a degree in Social Work which nicely characterized the care she had with family, friends and neighbours and, later in life, her work with the elderly. She met her future husband Lamond Alexander Milne at UBC and they married on December 8, 1950. In later life she went into accounting and bookkeeping and was always there to help in the family businesses. She is survived by her three remaining children and their partners, Robert and Diane, Barbara, David and Linda. Her grandchildren and their partners, Benjamin and Lilac, Alexander and Andreea, Geordie and Alexandra, Duncan and Michael. She is survived by three great grandchildren, Myrtle, Mila and Baen. She is predeceased by her husband Lamond, her second born child Duncan and her brother Donald Lord.
She will be remembered fondly by her surviving family, friends, neighbours, dogs, birds, squirrels and by all who were fortunate to have made her acquaintance and had been a part of her life. She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and always a kind word. For the endless baking and making of desserts that were always on hand for all to enjoy at home and at work. Her love and sense of humour touched everyone, even in her last days she would lift everyone’s spirits around her. Never one to complain she remained stoic in all the trials and tribulations in her long life. “Par for the course” and “Oh Jeepers” characterized her ready acceptance of Life’s events.
She passed her final few years at Columbus Residence in Vancouver whose outstanding staff made her journey in later life a pleasant one and she was cared for in the same spirit as she would care for others.
