Harker, Chester Byron, 76
It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Chester…husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to many. Chester passed at home on December 7, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax to the Late: Roy and Rose (Peters) Harker, he moved to L’Ardoise in 1951 where he lived most of his life raising his family.
Chester fought a courageous battle and never gave up. His love for family was always at the forefront and we will all miss him. We are comforted knowing his pain has ended and he is with Jesus and loved ones gone before him.
Left to mourn are his loving wife of 43 years, Shirley (Bona) Harker and their son, Lloyd (Connie) and brothers, Edward (Fran) Keith (Simone), and Gary (Josie), all of Halifax.
John (Rosie) and Glenn (Nadine) of L’Ardoise. Sisters Mary (Sam), Ontario, Edyth (Graham) and Cecilia (Shaun) of Halifax, and Gladys (Reg), Janet (Paul), Sally (Paul), Paula (Leo) all of L’Ardoise. He will also be missed by his life-long friend and brother inlaw, Clifford Bona (Carol), L’Ardoise.
Predeseased by his brothers: Ivan and Weston and sisters, Carol and Myra, loving grandparents, especially Grannie Peter’s, nieces Erin and Darlene, nephews Brad and Michael, in- laws Joe and Marie Bona as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Chester was a hard worker and enjoyed tending to his yard. He meticulously maintained the L’Ardoise and Grand River cemeteries for many years. Chester was always available as a ‘cab driver’ for his family and friends. Anyone who knew Chester was impressed by his knowledge of our community, the history of its people along with his love of telling a good story.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home. Due to restrictions from COVID-19, there will be no funeral service at this time. A graveside service will be announced in the Spring of 2021.
The family wishes to thank all who helped Chester in his time of need. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Forget Me Not Animal Rescue. Animal welfare was near and dear to his heart or charity of choice. Funeral Arrangements are under the Care and Direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St. Port Hawkesbury.
