Obituary for Charles Nelson
Charles Ronald Nelson of Port Lambton passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 12, 2020 at the age of 95. Charles ‘Charlie’ was the son of the late William & Rebecca (Griffith) Nelson. Former husband of Milena and the late Margaret and Janet. Beloved father of Jennifer Walters (Joe), Roy Nelson (Barbara), Phillip Nelson (Bonnie), Samantha Harriman (Jeff) and the late Vicky Snea (Tom). He is survived by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and predeceased by his 4 siblings. Charlie was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 18 Wallaceburg, having served in the Royal Air Force as a tail gunner in World War II, a Merchant Navy Engineer, a Bobby and a Stationary Steam Engineer for the Canadian Department of National Defense. Emigrating from Harrogate in Yorkshire, England in 1966, Charles opened the very popular Millstream Fish & Chips shop in Langford, British Columbia and from there worked at Royal Roads Military College and Canadian Forces Bases Esquimalt and Comox. Charles was also a member of Freemasonry and the St. James Anglican Church in Port Lambton where he also played the organ for many years. Private family funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg.
