Obituary of Carol Ruth Caston
Carol Ruth Caston, 86 of Canaan, passed away peacefully at the Valley Hospice in Kentville, on December 18, 2020. Born on October 24, 1934 in Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Blanche (Brown) Lockhart.
Carol grew up in Windsor and graduated from Windsor Academy, and went on to attend the Windsor School of Business. She then worked for four years with the Hants County Children’s Aid Society.
Following a road trip to Fredericton, NB, Carol and her girlfriend, Ruth Newton, met their soon-to-be husbands. After Carol and Fred married, they moved to a new life of homesteading in Hines Creek, AB, which is where they remained for six years.
Carol worked as a secretary/bookkeeper at Fairview Municipal Hospital. The extremely cold weather prompted a move to Kelowna, BC, where Fred built their second home. Carol worked in a health food store for a Seventh-day Adventist couple, and played the organ for her church.
In 1979, Carol and Fred returned to Nova Scotia whereupon Fred built their third house in Canaan. On their acreage, they began a successful fish farm.
Carol was the organist at the New Minas Seventh-day Adventist Church for 41 years. She enjoyed drawing, gardening, and sports, such as baseball, badminton, and tennis. She had a love for music, especially the church choir, where her Mom was both organist and pianist. She had a small keyboard which she carried with her and loved to play everyone’s favourite music. She enjoyed meeting people and looking out for those less fortunate.

Carol is survived by her husband Fred Caston, Middleton; sister Vivian Riley, Windsor; and niece Heather Sanford, Windsor.
Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her uncles Allan and Bill Milton; aunt Ruth Lockhart; nephew; cousins Jessie Thorpe; Catherine New-Stein; Lois MacDonald; Bernice Ross; Billy Lockhart.
Special thanks is also given to Madeline, and volunteer Valerie Cunningham, who were by her side at her passing.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 5th, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the New Minas Seventh Day Adventist Church. Pastor Dave Crooks will be officiating, assisted by Gerry Bezanson. Memorial donations in Carols memory, may be made to the Valley Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
