It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander Buckareff on the evening of Saturday, July 11, 2020 at University Hospital in London, Ontario. Born 78 years ago in a village in China, Alexander spent his early years as a war refugee moving with his family from China, to the Philippines, to Paraguay and Argentina, eventually coming to the United States and finally immigrating to Canada. He was a watchmaker and jeweller by trade, but his real passion was fishing—first with his brothers, then his children and grandchildren—spending weekends and any time possible at the family cottage. His early life was challenging and what he learned from those experiences he wished to impart to his children and grandchildren. He was opinionated and stubborn (to the very end), but not without some wisdom. More than anything, Alexander hoped that those he loved would have more than he was ever given in life and he attempted to enable them any way he could. Being very proud of the family and life he built with his wife of 56 years, he probably resented his children for not taking his advice more often. He is preceded in death by his father, Maxim, mother, Alexandra, and brother, Boris. He is survived by his hard-working, patient and loving wife, Sarah; his children: Samuel (Jane), Phillip, Reuben (Nathalie), Esther, Jacob (Julie), Leah (Aidan), and Miriam (Mike); his grandchildren: Zachariah, Benjamin, Vanessa, Magdelena, Anton, Nathan, Gregory, Derek, Ethan, Avah, Naomi, Michael, and Olivia; his great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Elijah, Amelia, Caragh, and Adelaide; and his siblings: Raya, Tava, Andrei, Gene, Liza, and Nadia. Alexander will be dearly missed by Liana, Angie, Jeri and a multitude of nephews, nieces and extended family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Please be aware that masks are mandatory and COVID-19 protocols are in place which may preclude some from being able to attend. Due to restricted room capacity, overflow seating will be utilized which may prevent guests from personally interacting with the family.
