It is with great sadness that we share news of the sudden passing of Bruno Gerhard Werner, on May 27, 2020 in his 93rd years. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Adelgunde “Gundel” (2010). Also predeceased by his siblings in Germany. Bruno will be sincerely missed by family and dear friends in Germany, and by his friends and close neighbours in Canada. Bruno married Gundel (Lueck) in 1957. Bruno’s love for Gundel was everlasting, as beautifully inscribed on a plaque affixed to a bench, overlooking Lake Ontario in Grimsby, that reads: “In Memory of Adelgunde (Gundel) Werner. Forever, Bruno.” He worked at Corrections Canada for 25 years as a Procurement Officer. He loved reading, music, working in the garden, recounting travel and wartime stories, going for regular walks and enjoying life through connecting with others. Bruno loved keeping-up on the news- world news in the media, as well as the neighbourhood “word on the street”. He and Gundel adored their community of friends-like-family from their years in Oakville, at the cottage, and in Grimsby- and everywhere else folks were lucky enough to speak with his family and dear friends. In Canada, Bruno shared smiles every day with neighbours and friends who popped-by to share a meal, a piece of pie, some vegetables from their garden, a story, or just a hug and some time to connect. He loved going to homes for special events like holidays and birthdays. Bruno leaves to cherish in his loving memory: great nieces and nephews in Germany, special friends who he considered family, and a host of other dear relatives and cherished people – all of whom can tell you a wonderful story about dear Bruno. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. If desired, memorial contributions to McNally House Hospice would be sincerely appreciated. We will honour his life in a gathering at a future date yet to be determined.
