Beverley-Dawn “Bev” Richardson (Trites)
(Currie), 79, of Kentville, NS, passed away peacefully following a
brief illness at the QEII Halifax Infirmary on February 22, 2020,
surrounded by the love of family and friends. Born on April 17, 1940
in Halifax, NS, she was the daughter of C. LeRoy and A. Beryl (Giffin)
Trites.
Bev is survived by her three daughters, Lee Currie, Oakville;
Bryn Currie, Toronto and Beth Currie Watt (Jamie), Toronto; eight
grandchildren, Claire, Cole, Chloe, Caden, William, Sydney, Spencer,
Greydon; sisters-in-law, Joan Trites, Fredericton; Barbara Beatty,
Shediac; Kathryn (Dennis) Morris, White Rock, BC; several cherished
nieces and nephews, including Todd Trites (Bonnie), Upper Gagetown;
Lisa Lindsley (Henry), and Janet Ross (David), Coldbrook; great nieces
and nephews. In addition to her parents, Bev was predeceased by her
beloved husband of 31 years, Grant; brother, Frederick and sister,
Patricia, in infancy.
Bev studied at Acadia Horton Academy, Acadia University
(’60), and Victoria General School of Nursing (RN
’62). She worked as a nurse and subsequently, with Grant, as
owner of a 4-star bed and breakfast in Truro, NS for nine years. She
was a member of the Wolfville Baptist Church, serving tirelessly on
several boards and committees, especially the Social &
Benevolent Committee, where she helped plan and orchestrate many
dinners, fundraisers and church celebrations. Bev adored working with
her hands and this was evidenced through her many past times of
knitting, sewing, photography, quilting and drawing. She had a passion
for gardening, painting, theatre, art collecting and travel. Bev loved
Acadia and her many lifelong friendships. She was a very proud, active
and supportive Acadia Alumnus and was the 2018 recipient of the Acadia
Alumni Isaac Chipman Award for Excellence in Alumni Service. She was
an Acadia cheerleader in 1959 and will forever Stand Up and Cheer for
Old Acadia!
Bev played an instrumental part in raising funds, securing
donors and providing input on the design to bring The Valley Hospice
to fruition (summer 2020). Her philanthropy was extended in many ways
including to the Landmark East School, L’Arche Homefires,
Sunday Music in the Garden Room and support for various talented young
Valley musicians to aid in the launch of their careers. Bev led a busy
life but was happiest perhaps when she was preparing tea biscuits for
a crowd, serving tea to friends, hosting a dinner party, celebrating
milestones, travelling or in days gone by, dancing with
Grant.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8
p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held
on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wolfville Baptist
Church. Burial will be held at a later date. The family wishes to
extend thanks to Bev’s family doctor, Dr. Barbara Ross, the
Valley Regional Hospital and the caring staff of the Palliative Care
Unit at the Halifax Infirmary. Family flowers only, by request.
Donations in Bev’s memory may be made to the Wolfville
Baptist Church – Elevator Fund, the Acadia Alumni
Association, the Valley Hospice Foundation or a charity of the
donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to
the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
