Obituary of BETTY LYNN JOHNSON
BETTY LYNN JOHNSON
(nee RUDNEY)
March 1, 1947 – May 22, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Betty Lynn Johnson announces her falling asleep in death on May 22, 2020 at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 73 years.
Betty will be lovingly missed and forever remembered by Donald, her husband of 54 years; her daughter Tamara Johnson-Suarez De La Cruz (Carlos); son Kyle and granddaughter Sadie. Left to cherish Betty’s memory also is her family, friends and large spiritual family.
Betty was predeceased by her parents Stanley and Rose Rudney and her brother Jerry Rudney.
Betty was born in Winnipeg on March 1, 1947. She grew up on a farm in Silver, MB with her parents Stanley and Rose with siblings Jerry and Dennis. There, under her mother’s fine example, she developed an unmatched spirit of generosity and a great love for our Creator, Jehovah God.
In 1963 this feisty Polish beauty met the love of her life, a handsome farm boy from Riverton, MB. In the summer of 1966 they made their love official and settled down in Winnipeg. Soon to follow were their children Tamara and Kyle.
In 1975 Donald, Betty and their children returned to farm life on the Johnson homestead in Riverton, MB. Alongside Donald, Betty continued her long career as a loving housewife and mother. Betty also partnered with Donald in creating Johnson’s Beef Cutting. Their business became well known in the Interlake area and many customers became good friends. Living on the farm is where Betty developed her love of gardening. Betty and her family transformed their farm into what many called “a park”. The homestead hosted many a family reunion and spiritual get-to-gether. Organizing these social gatherings was another of Betty’s loves.
In 1995 Don and Betty left farm life and moved to Arborg, MB. There they created a new life for themselves. This is where Betty adopted her husband’s Icelandic heritage and perfected her version of the Icelandic favorite, Vinarterta. Betty’s tasty cakes quickly became a sought after treat to family and friends.
Betty had an enduring love of travel throughout her life both domestic and abroad. She, Donald, her children and granddaughter shared many vacations to exotic locations in Hawaii, Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Southern Caribbean islands. In all her adventures connecting with her spiritual brothers and sisters was very important. Betty was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 28, 1961 in Winnipeg Beach, MB. Betty’s greatest love was serving her God, Jehovah and she enjoyed sharing Bible truths with others in her full time ministry. Betty had a strong faith in our Creator’s promises and that one day the earth will become a Paradise again. “The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it.” (Psa. 37:29) She also found great comfort in (Revelation 21:3,4) where God’s promises, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more.”
The Johnson family would like to thank all the doctors and staff at the CancerCare in St. Boniface Hospital. Including, all the nurses and health care aids at the 6A Gyne Wing for their kindness in keeping our wife and mother comfortable throughout her illness. Also, for a brief time the caring staff members at the 3E Palliative Care wing in the Riverview Health Centre. Making mom’s final days comfortable was deeply appreciated. For all those who lovingly sent flowers, cards, food, gifts and kept mom and all of us in your loving prayers, we thank you. The support we have felt over the years has been a great comfort.
As per Betty’s wishes, cremation will take place with a private family burial to commence at a later date. In compliance with the COVID-19 social distancing ruling, a memorial service may be held at a later date.
Love you always and forever.
