Arthur Dahr June 2 2020

Dahr, F. Arthur – It is with profound sadness that we tell you of the passing of our father on June 2, 2020 at age 85 in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour. Dad succumbed to Parkinson’s Disease and a broken heart after the very recent passing of his wife, Ruby.
Arthur was born in Port Dufferin, a son of the late Walter and Nellie (McLellan) Dahr. His family moved to Caribou Gold Mines where he grew up and attended school until the age of 14, at which time he went to work in the woods to help support his younger brothers and sisters. After Arthur and Ruby married, they moved to Mooseland where they raised their three girls. Arthur worked in the forest industry all of his working days.
After Arthur retired, he enjoyed his vegetable gardens, building bird houses and feeders and puttering in his shed on other carpentry projects. He always looked forward to the Caribou Reunion Days and enjoyed helping with the construction of the boardwalk on the “Sands”. He was also an avid hunter and fur harvester and supporter of wildlife conservation. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing, and on his last fishing trip to Loon Pond (thank you Alan) he reeled in some really nice ones.
Arthur and Ruby’s door was always open and their home was host to countless family and friends gathering with wonderful home cooked meals and the odd game of washer toss and darts. Arthur always had a soft spot for cats and he and Ruby provided a good home for many over the years.
Arthur is survived by his daughters, Wanda (Boyd Prest); Sherry (Dwayne Murphy) and Tanya (Brian Bowser); grandchildren, Jonathan Murphy (Britney); Katelyn Murphy and Logan Bowser; great-grandchildren, Isabelle Murphy and Zachary Murphy. He is also survived by sister, Jean Harnish; brother, Eric (Donna); sisters, Freda (Steve) Goddard; Wanneta (Wayne) Bowles and Judy (Kenny) Burgess; as well as many nieces and nephews. Arthur is predeceased by his wife, Ruby; brother, Tommy and brother-in-law, Murray Harnish.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Karl Tenneson and Dr. Rob Merritt and all of the nurses who cared for Dad as their own. A special thank you to the sitters who went the extra mile to keep Dad safe and content.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. There will be a family burial at a later date in St. Thomas Anglican Cemetery, Musquodoboit Harbour.
Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson’s Society of NS, NS SPCA or charity of choice.
To quote Betty B – “Ruby and Arthur’s was a love story straight from a movie – the cute, young girl from Upper and the cool, handsome rebel from Caribou. It was so romantic.”
Dad is yodelling in heaven now.
