Obituary
Anne Schneider passed away peacefully with family at her side on July 13, 2020 in Calgary, Alberta at Extendicare Cedars Villa.
She was born on January 28, 1929 on the family farm near Sceptre, Saskatchewan to Jacob and Maria Filyk. She was the fourth oldest of nine children. Anne loved the farm. There was always work to do, yet they had lots of fun as there were many children around. Anne attended Sceptre School and often mentioned taking the school van. She especially enjoyed when her Dad would surprise them at the van stop with the horse and sleigh to pick them up.
Anne married Sam Schneider in 1948. They lived their early married life in Port Arthur, Ontario before moving to Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan and raising their two sons, Kenneth and Gordon. In Hudson Bay, Anne was a member of the Eastern Star and was an active member of the United Church. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Anne moved to Saskatoon in 1977 and worked at the Saskatoon Convalescent Nursing Home until she retired in 1994 and was honoured on her final day of employment, January 31. She always looked professional in her uniform and took pride in a job well done. After her retirement Anne moved to Calgary, Alberta.
Family was very important to Anne and she loved family gatherings. A highlight for he was attending and participating at the Filyk Family Reunions. Anne’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to listen to them play piano, have a family sing-along and watch them Ukrainian Dance. She enjoyed playing many games with them. Grandma even invented her own card game…..PEACE. The name of this game tells a lot about our Grandma. Anne loved to take her children and grandchildren out to eat (especially KFC). She would create excuses to be at the mall at lunch time so she could meet her grandsons for lunch. Her grandsons looked forward to spending nights at her place as she always cooked perogies for them. Education was very important to Anne and she instilled this, along with a strong work ethic in her children and grandchildren. Anne will always be remembered for her love of music, her determination and her love of family. She will be dearly missed.
Anne is survived by sons Ken (Violet) Schneider of Saskatoon and Gordon (Tracey) Schneider of Chestermere; grandchildren Cora (Chris) Putz and Tera (Stephen) Maguire, both of Saskatoon, Jason Schneider of Calgary, and Matthew (Steffanie) Schneider of Lethbridge; great-grandchildren Caitlyn and Carson Putz, Mason and Jimmy Maguire, all of Saskatoon; brothers Bill, Art and Tony (Margaret); sister Doris Baziuk; sister-in-law Florian Filyk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Anne was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Maria Filyk; brothers Nick, Jack and Walter; sister Sylvia; brother-in-law Bill Baziuk; and sisters-in-law Mary Filyk and Anne Filyk.
A family celebration of Anne’s life will be held at a later date.
