Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Jim Dwyer, on Thursday, October 21st, 2020, at the age of 78 years. Jim was predeceased by his parents James and Claire, brothers Pat and Ed, sister Mary, brother-in-law Gilbert, and sister-in-law Sybil.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Susan (née Anderson); daughters Lisa (Patrick), Nicole (Claude) and Jackie; grandchildren Katrina, Keegan, Eric, Claudine, Paryse, Olivier, Julien, Jessie, Andrew and Alison; brother Gerald (Maureen); brother-in-law Clinton (Thelma), sister-in-law Nellie and numerous other family, friends and loved ones.
Jim began life’s journey on September 15th, 1942 in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland. As a youth Jim developed a passion for hockey and a love for fishing and hunting that would carry into his adult years. In his early 20’s Jim joined the army and left Newfoundland to see the world, serving tours in both Egypt and Cyprus. While stationed in Gagetown, New Brunswick, Jim accompanied an army buddy, Clinton Anderson, to his home in Plaster Rock for a visit. It was here that he met Clinton’s sister, Susan Anderson, and his life would be forever changed. Jim and Susan were fortunate to discover a love so deep and strong that it withstood over half a century of life’s trials and tribulations. Their union produced three beautiful daughters and Jim was always a proud father with a strong sense of family. Jim was a man of faith and started every morning with prayer and reflection while viewing a daily televised Catholic mass. Through the years Jim worked in sales and corrections, while also trying his hand at farming. As he entered his golden years Jim enjoyed spending time at the Herman Prior Centre playing cards and sharing a laugh. He was always up for conversation and shared laughter, whether it was with family, friends or acquaintances. Jim proudly called Manitoba home for much of his adult life, but he always remained a very proud Newfoundlander, returning to Newfoundland at least once a year to catch up with family and friends there, while also getting in some good fishing.
The family would sincerely like to thank Dr. Kinnear as well as the paramedics, emergency room doctors and nurses for their compassionate care in Jim’s final moments.
If friends so desire, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Herman Prior Centre, BDO Centre for the Community, or the Prairie Welcome House.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
