Walter Woodrow Young

Walter Woodrow Young November 1 1933 – December 20 2019

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Woodrow Young , 86 of Morley’s Siding. He completed the last mile of his life’s journey on December 20, 2019 at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville. Born November 1, 1933 in Musgravetown, he is predeceased by his parents Walter and Bessie (Vincent), sister Maxine Schamper (Robert), brother John Young (Vera) and brother-in-law Eric Tremblett.
He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at a young age and seen the world before moving to Morley’s Siding and starting his lifelong career as a farmer. A short time later he married Kay Diamond and brought her to Morley’s Siding where they started their lives together. He loved his career as a farmer and did not mind hard work. He was at his happiest when spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and nephews and nieces. Anyone who knew him well knew him as a legendary prankster. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for a bit of fun. As a young boy he would sneak onto his father’s schooner and head to St. John’s, especially if one of his pranks got him in trouble. His love of life and pranks made him a favourite among his children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and their friends.
Left with wonderful, loving memories are his wife Kay (Diamond), son Verdon Greening (Glenda), daughters Suzette Strong (Will) and Margo Young, and his precious and much loved grandchildren Kaitlin, Lucas (Danielle), Liam, Saydee and Sophie, brother Hubert Young, sister-in-law Patsy Tremblett, many nephews, nieces, cousins and a large circle of family and friends. He will be resting at Fewer’s Funeral Home in Lethbridge on Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at the Memorial United Church, Lethbridge on Monday, December 23rd at 2:00 pm with cremation to follow.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the staff of Dr. G. B. Cross Hospital, Clarenville and the staff at Golden Heights Manor in Bonavista. Special thanks to Chantal Mills, his caregiver who treated him like a king. Thank you to all who visited, called or messaged. Your kindness means so much.
