YOUNG, Sonja Anita (nee Buhmann)
Sonja Young, died peacefully December 26, 2019. She was extremely well cared for by the staff of Fairvern Nursing Home where she had been a resident for about 18 months. Words of gratitude can only scratch the surface in offering appreciation for the warmth, kindness, and care she received at Fairvern.
Born in Germany in 1929, she found her way to Scotland in 1946 and met her future husband there. Sonja married John G. Young in 1948, brought John Peter Young into the world in 1952, and the family immigrated to Canada in 1954 to begin a new life, with all its twists and turns, ups and downs. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
In November 2019, Sonja celebrated her 90th birthday, and at that point, a significant decline in her health began … it was as if that milestone invited her to turn a corner.
Grateful for her peaceful passing are her son, John P. (Sue) and grandchildren Katherine (Marco) and Jonathan (Sarah). Placement of her ashes will take place in the spring. Many thanks to Cheryl at Billingsley Funeral Home for her kindness and help.
