Obituary
CHESSOR, Dean
1933 – 2019
Dean Chessor was born at home near Lacombe in 1933. He and his twin sister Jean (Ferguson) completed the large blended Chessor/Flewelling family. They were raised by William and Annie Chessor with much input from many brothers and sisters.
Dean married Etta Leader in 1957 and they have shared 62 years together. Their family grew to include 3 children and their families. Sheila Chessor, Carol Sherrer (Martin) and their children Kaitlyn Randell (Travis and Bryson), Allison Sherrer and Marla Sherrer. Ken Chessor (Kathie) and their children Tyren, Kale, Travis and Kallista. Dean was there for any 4-H function, curling game or ball game his grandchildren were participating in.
Dean always knew he wanted to farm. He studied agriculture at Olds College. Dean and Etta were living in Calgary when the opportunity presented to take over the Leader Farm near Joffre. Dean was proud to become part of a family farming tradition that Ken now continues. Celebrating 100 years of the farm in 2003 was a highlight for Dean.
Dean was committed to community. He held volunteer positions in local and church organizations, was a 4-H leader and a board member for several groups. He was particularly interested in supporting co-op organizations like UFA, Chain Lakes Gas Coop, and Equs. Dean followed politics and believed in the power that individuals had to make change through political action.
Dean loved woodworking and collecting and itemizing his antiques and license plates. He always enjoyed coffee and a visit.
Thank you to RDRHC Unit 32 and Lacombe Hospital Palliative Care for the kindness and support over the last week.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be used to create a 4-H award, or can be made in Dean’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
A Celebration of Life for Dean will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Lacombe Memorial Centre, 5214 50 Ave, Lacombe, AB T4L 0B6.
