Robert Alois Ober (Bob) passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at Regina Pioneer Village after a lengthy battle with dementia. Bob was born at St. Joseph’s Colony and farming was in his blood. He was predeceased by his parents John and Elizabeth Obrigewitsch (Reich); sister Loretta Lobsinger and his loving wife Nancy (Abdoulah).
Bob is survived by his son Brent (Sharon); grandson Thomas; sister Eleanor (Warren) Tannahill; brother Dan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at Pioneer Village for the care he was given while a resident.
Bob was always up for new adventures. He operated the Dance Hall at Regina Beach as a young man and loved playing hockey. He was a goalie for the Montreal Canadiens farm team and left the team when he was about to start a family.
Bob worked for his parents at Aerotone Dry Cleaners and was an accomplished tailor. He then opened Capital Cleaners on Broad Street. When it was time for a career change, he went to work at Ipsco as an Electrical Apprentice. After his apprenticeship was done, he went into service work on his own. He opened Rebo Electric and eventually Plains Industries as a General Contractor.
Bob bought some farm land out by Liberty where his father John and brother Dan each had land. He was always at peace when he was working the land.
After leaving hockey as a career, Bob played for numerous teams and eventually became the Executive Director of the Old-Timers League. He would play net for as many as 4 teams a year, 2 of those teams were Hicke’s Hookers with his good friend Bill Hicke and the Sedley Flying Farmers.
Bob was a member of the Queen City Kinsmen Club and enjoyed giving back to the community.
He had a passion for life and successfully juggled work, family and playtime.
He became a proud grandpa when his only grandson Thomas was born and Thomas quickly became the light of his life.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends but it’s comforting to know that he is reunited with his wife Nancy after 18 years of being apart.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society in honour of Bob’s life would be welcomed. Celebration of Life and interment will be held at a later date.
