Obituary of Gerelene Cora Varner
VARNER, Gerelene Cora – Age 93, New Germany, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning December 19, 2019, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Hemford, she was a daughter of the late Oren and Elreta (Snyder) Woodworth.
Gerelene was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Germany where she was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was very active in the Lutheran Women’s Association, including the prayer shawl ministry. Gerelene was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by her children, Helene (John) Parnell, New Germany; Edward (Sheila) Varner, Truro; Michelle (Varner) MacDonald, Lakeside; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Varner, New Germany; grandchildren, Melanie, Bruce (Luke), Christa (Blair), Chad (Tanya), Michael (Jaylene), Jason (Ashlee), Joshua (Robbie) and Natasha; great grandchildren, BreAnne, Leah, Aaliyah, Wyatt, Gwen, Brier and Callen.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ray; son, Richard; sisters, Pauline, Noreen; brothers, Glen, Kenneth, Bruce and Buster.
Gerelene’s family would like to say a special thanks to the nurses at South Shore Regional Hospital on the 3rd and 4th floors and in the Emergency Department. Also, we would like to thank the staff at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital (Patterson Wing) and the homecare workers that took care of her at home for the past four years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 Highway 10, New Germany, where Gerelene’s family will receive family and friends from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, December 21. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, December 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4960 Highway 10, New Germany, Pastor David Whynot officiating and Rev. Catherine Robar assisting. Private Interment in the church cemetery. Reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or a charity of your choice.
