George Gilmour Stothart December 3rd 2019

On Tuesday, December 3, 2019 George Stothart passed away at the age of 80, after a more than year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born the oldest of four children April 23, 1939 in Ottawa, Ontario to Jack and Betty Stothart. He spent his youth growing up in Lacombe, Alberta where his father Jack served as director of the experimental farm. These early years formed the foundation of a love for sport as a multi-sport athlete, and over 64 years as a basketball official, culminating in his induction into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. George was a pillar in the deaf community as a player, coach, teacher and founding member of the Alberta Deaf Sports Association. He raised his 3 boys (Perry, Jeremy, Robey) in Devon, Alberta before making Tofield his home for the past 19 years.
To say George lived an influentially memorable life would be an understatement, his easy-going nature, and love of people will endure as a lasting legacy. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Judith, brothers, Peter (Candy) and Bob (Marg); sons, Perry (Kaylani), Jeremy (Jenee), Robey (Marcella); and step-son, Ron (Christi). He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Ryan (Erinn), Noah, Julia, Brianne, Kaylee, Cameron, Bella, Kai, and Colby; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. George was predeceased by his parents, step-mother Pat, his sister Anne, and his first wife Jean.
The family wishes to invite all, whom George touched throughout his life, to a Memorial Service held in his honour at the Gateway Stake Centre, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (4303-20 avenue NW, Edmonton) Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11:00am. Light refreshments to follow.
As per George’s wishes, his ashes will be interred at a later date with his parents and sister in Lacombe.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Deaf Sports Association, #205, 11404 – 142 street NW, Edmonton, AB, T5M 1V1.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of George Gilmour Stothart December 3rd 2019..
