With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Domenico. He was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on December 26th, 2019. He is survived by his loving and cherished wife Laura (nee Di Paolo) of 59 years. He was an amazing and loving father to Anita (Maurizio) and Tony. Extremely proud nonno of Natalie (Christopher) and Gabriel who brought him exceptional happiness and joy. He will be sadly missed by his siblings; the late Camillo (Anna); the late Pietro (Maria); Santino (Maria); Domenica (the late Carlo). Brother-in-law to Antonio, Peirrino (Antoinetta) and Maria (Nino). He will also be held dear in the hearts of many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada, Switzerland, Italy and USA.
Domenico left Catignano Italy in 1951 to make Switzerland his home for 17 years before immigrating to his forever home in Canada in 1968. A true and proud Canadian, he retired from Dofasco in 1992 to spend time with his family and his beautifully tended garden. He taught us to work hard, be honest and not take anything for granted. We are thankful to have gained many valuable life lessons from his wisdom and experience.
Many thanks to Dr. Alipio and staff, Gail and the palliative care nurses from St. Joseph’s Health Care for their compassionate and dignified care of our loving Domenico.
Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home – “William J. Markey Chapel”, 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Monday, December 30th 2019 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm with Vigil Prayers at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, 20 Idlewood Avenue, Hamilton on Tuesday, December 31st, 2019 at 10:00 am followed by Entombment at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Cemetery, Stoney Creek.
In lieu of flowers and for those who wish, memorial donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
