MacNeil, Catherine (Kay) – Bass River, N.S. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother on Sunday, November 3, 2019 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. She passed peacefully in the presence of her son, Joseph and good friend, Erma Cox. Born in Sydney Mines on January 26, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Hughie and Lillian (Enion) Costello. Kay had worked for years at the old Co-Operative in Sydney Mines and later worked in the laundry at the old Sydney Mines Hospital. Kay is survived by sons, Donald (Pat) Whalen, North Carolina, Richard (Valerie) Whalen, Lower Sackville, Michael Whalen, Bass River, and Joseph (Brenda) Whalen, Bass River; daughters, Eileen (Ernie) Leblanc, Sydney Mines, Paulette (Alex) Moore, North Sydney and Bernadette Whalen, Toronto. She is also survived by sisters, Lillian (Jack) Proctor, Jessie MacKeigan, Patsy (Nicky) Melnik, Betty (Norman) Pye and brother, Gerald Costello as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kay was predeceased by her husband, John Bernard MacNeil and sister, Eileen (Jim) Sullivan. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Special thanks to Dr. Karen Ewing and the VON Staff for all of their support. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
