Yaroslawa Jerry Julianna Carter September 14 1919 October 30 2019 (age 100)

Yaroslawa Julianna (Jerry) Carter
After celebrating her 100th birthday in September with family and friends, our mother Jerry Carter peacefully passed away at Champlain Manor on October 30, 2019. A life well lived! Our many thanks to the compassionate staff at Champlain Manor who provided direct care.
Jerry was predeceased by her loving husband His Honour Mr. Justice Archibald McGilvery (Mac) Carter, and survived by her children, Randy, Kim (James predeceased) and Blair; three grandchildren, Jennapher (Brad), James 5th (Rosaleen), Casey (Mike); five great grandchildren, Hailey, Graysen, Jack Henry, James 6th, Brooklyn; her brother Walter (Lucille), predeceased, her sister Irene (John) predeceased and her sister Roma (Orest) and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Jerry’s parents, Andrew and Helen Worobetz, emigrated from Ukraine to Canada in 1912. She attended public school in Krydor and Saskatoon including the Peter Mohyla Institute, a boarding school for Ukrainian education in history and language.
After graduating from high school in 1938, she moved to Toronto where she volunteered as an interpreter for recent Ukrainian immigrants not yet versed in the English language. She worked during the war until she married our father, Mac, an officer cadet in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Following the war they relocated back to Dad’s hometown, Orillia. She led a very busy and productive life by pursuing her many hobbies and crafts. She curled, golfed, played bridge and was an active member of the Y’sMenettes Club. She also enjoyed sewing children’s clothes and costumes, knitting and crocheting wonderful cable sweaters and scarves, embroidery, ceramic painting and dancing to her heart’s content while our father played the piano and organ. She had a passion for reading which encouraged her to try new activities such as auto mechanics and art courses. In her fifties, she began studying a wide variety of art mediums. She became well known and respected for her pastels and watercolor portraits and cards of children and adults. A truly multi-talented woman! Jerry was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage which she said accounted for her love of conversation and laughter. She could talk to anyone and often did whether it was in Orillia or in Boston under the Filene’s clock. She never met a stranger! All in all she led a wonderful life and often said so. As she requested, she has been cremated and her urn placed next to the love of her life, her husband and soulmate of 72 years.
At Jerry’s request, there will be no funeral service. There will be a private family gathering to celebrate her life at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can be made through the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West Street N., Orillia ON L3V5C1. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
