Murdena Mae ‘Dena’ Nock MacKinnon 19362019

Murdena Mae ‘Dena’ (Nock) MacKinnon
1936-2019
MacKINNON (Nock), Murdena
“Dena” Mae – Age 83,
Whycocomagh, Inverness Co., died peacefully with her children by her
side, on Saturday, November 23, 2019, in the Inverary Manor,
Inverness. Born in Kewstoke, Inverness Co., on May 15, 1936, she was a
daughter of the late William and Catherine (MacLean)
Nock.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Melvin) MacInnis,
Whycocomagh; son, Neil Willie (Leanne) MacKinnon, Aberdeen;
grandchildren (who she was so proud of), Brooke, Halifax; and Liam
MacKinnon, Antigonish; special nephew, Wayne (Ann) MacKay,
Whycocomagh; sisters, Emily (Morrison) MacKay; Kaye (Bubby) Shaw;
brothers, Billy and Winston (Jean) Nock; brother-in-law, Malcolm
MacLean; sister-in-law, Jessie MacKinnon; numerous (but dearly loved)
nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents,
she was predeceased by her husband, D.H. MacKinnon (1973); his
parents, Neil and Tena Belle MacKinnon; sisters, Peggy (Sam) Pearo;
Florrie (Peter Alex) Ferguson, Irene (Malcolm) MacPherson, Shirley
(Allie) Rouse; brothers, Sandy (Tena) Nock, Jackie Nock;
sisters-in-law, Shirley Nock, Archena MacKinnon and Mary Margaret
MacLean; brothers-in-law, Neil D. MacKinnon and Lauchie
MacKinnon.
Dena was a proud member of St. Andrew’s
Presbyterian Church and long-time member of the Laides Aid. She also
sang in the choir at church for many years. She was part of the
Bayville Seniors Club, a proud Tory, a Montreal Canadians fan and a
fiddle music enthusiast. Mom enjoyed a game of cards, a cup of tea
(King Cole and only King Cole!) and was well known for her skills in
the kitchen as a cook and baker. She worked at many places over the
years, but ultimately The Mull Café and
Deli.
She lived on Johnson Lane in the heart of Whycocomagh for
over 40 years. Her door was always open and the kettle was always on.
She was undeniably generous, kind-hearted and humble, but her most
desirable attribute was her innate motherly sense, for not only her
own children and grandchildren, but for her nieces and nephews, other
family members, friends of her children, neighbours and community
members. She was brave, hardworking and the face of resiliency. She
faced more hardship than was deserved in her lifetime, but only grew
more selfless. She was dearly loved and will be deeply
missed.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the
Inverary Manor (Harbour Lights Villa) for their exceptional care
throughout her four years there. Words can’t express our
appreciation for you all.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. on Wednesday in Dennis
Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be 11
a.m. Thursday from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church,
Whycocomagh with Margie MacIntyre – LLWL officiating. Burial
will follow in Stewartdale Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Stewartdale Cemetery or
