Obituary of Gordon Reginald Hillier
Hillier, Gordon R. – June 11, 1929 – Oct. 23, 2019 – Peacefully and with dignity, Gordon passed away on October 23, 2019 at the age of 90. Beloved husband of Mary (Morse) and cherished father of Susan (Jim) Gagne and Reg Hillier (Teresa). Predeceased by beloved daughter Shirley. Loving grandfather of Adam (Erin) Gagne, Marc (Nora) Gagne, Julia Hillier and Colyer Hillier. Great grandfather to Hanna, Lily and Ryder Gagne. Will also be missed by Emily and Alex.
Born and raised in Cape Breton, Gord will be sadly missed by his sisters Harriet (late John) Cashin of New Waterford, NS and Shirley (late Don) Wright of Dartmouth, NS and sister-in-law Jessie Hillier of New Waterford. Pre-deceased by parents Charles and Lillian Hillier, brothers, Charles, Fred (Doris), Walter (Anna) and sister Irene (Donald) MacDonald.
Will be remembered fondly by Mary’s family; sisters-in-law Betty Iles and Pauline Gawronski; brothers-in-law Bill (clara) Andrews, Fred Morse, John & Myrt Morse. Gord will be missed by many friends, nieces, nephews and cousins locally and in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
After living in Hamilton (39 years at Stelco), Gord and Mary retired to Vineland. He was a former member of St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Hamilton and currently a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Jordan.
A special thanks to the staff of the Second floor West at Albright Manor, Beamsville for their compassionate care of Gordon as he struggled with Alzheimer’s disease.
Funeral Service at St.Michael’s Anglican Church, 1188 Fennell Ave. E., Hamilton, ON at 9:30a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Memorial donations to St. Michael’s Church, Hamilton, St. John’s Church, Jordan or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. .
