Glenda’s Obituary
DODGE, Glenda Mary ~ Age 82, of Kingston, Kings Co., in the wee small hours of the morning of Sunday, October 20, 2019, dementia stole our mother from us, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in MacGregor, Manitoba, on September 27, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Christopher G. and Jemima K. “Mina” (Irwin) Pigg, and besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold Dodge and brother, Myron Pigg. Glenda was a military wife, who raised five children. While the family was posted to Uplands, she wrote and printed a community newspaper and was active in the Curling Club, travelling to compete in bonspiels in Europe on a couple of occasions. Upon moving to Greenwood, Glenda decided that what the area needed was a place to buy fabric. She travelled to Montreal to buy fabric and started to sell fabrics and notions out of the basement. Eventually, Glenda opened two stores, one in Greenwood and one in Kingston. She then consolidated the two stores into the largest Fabric Store in western Nova Scotia, known as the Fabric House, in the Greenwood Mall. Upon retirement, Glenda and Harold spent many hours travelling to play golf. She was proud of her five children, four grandchildren and one great grandson. Surviving are daughter, Nancy Hennessey, Wilmot; son, Donald (Karen) Dodge, Dartmouth; daughter, Christina Dodge, Meadowvale; son, Jamie (Karen) Dodge, High River, Alberta; daughter, Carole (Grant) Melanson, Spa Springs; grandchildren, Erin Hennessey, Calgary, Alberta; Ryan (Samantha Kerfont) Hennessey, Greenwood; Jane (Eric) Dodge, Halifax; Samuel Dodge, Dartmouth; great grandson, Silas Hennessey, Greenwood; sister-in-law, Helen Dodge, Mahone Bay; nieces and nephews; American cousins, Mary Lou, Joe Jr, Katherine and Paula.
