After a long lengthy illness Dorothy Parker passed away with
family by her side at the Grand Manan Nursing Home, October 17,
2019.
She was born November 5, 1938. Dorothy spent her
childhood years on a working farm. She loved playing
softball in her younger years and made the bases from dulse sacks
filled with sawdust from Graham’s mill. She loved
playing basketball and played in the High School band. She
also loved playing Crokinole, Rook and Canasta.
Dorothy boned herring, worked at the Castalia Day Care, sea
eggs, cleaned the North Head Wesleyan Church and was a member there
for years. She also volunteered at the Nursing Home for 10
years and enjoyed the residents immensely.
Dorothy loved to cook with music playing. She also
enjoyed knitting while watching her favourite shows and walking with
her friends.
Dorothy was a child of GOD; she was adored, brave,
courageous, cherished, incredible, loved and unforgettable.
She was one of a kind, a precious gift who will be in our hearts
forever.
Dorothy is survived by her 2 daughters Rosemary (Phillip)
Russell, Vanessa Estabrooks (Bobby) of St. Stephen; 3 sons, Dale
(Cindy) Parker, Randy (Terry) Parker, and John Parker and 1 sister
Norma Reeves. Dorothy is also survived by 9 grand-children
and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by her father Marvin Thomas, her mother
Blake Thomas (White), her step-dad James Thomas, husband Phillip, her
sister Eunice Thomas, and grandson Alex Parker.
Visitation will take place Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Ells
Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. The funeral will take place from
Lighthouse Church, Grand Harbour on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 1:00
pm with Rev. Tim Guptill officiating.
Donations may be made in memory of Dorothy to the Grand Manan
Nursing Home Foundation or the Canadian National Institute for the
Blind (CINB).
